Week in NY 10/18-10/24/2010
Monday started with a meeting with faculty, staff, and students from KTH Royal institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. I along with other student leaders discussed women in computer science and how to encourage more girls to study CS. After the meeting, the director of the CS program gave us some cool souvenirs from KTH.
Someone told me that I only wear black. Look. I have shirts of every color. ^^
On Wednesday, I met up with Deepyaman for dinner at Shake Shack. He was in town for an interview and had some time to spare the day before the interview. It was my first time visiting Shake Shack’s midtown location.
Shake Shack is probably the most popular burger joint in New York. I always get the “Shroom Burger”, side of fries and a “purple cow”.
Afterwards, we took a stroll around Times Square. The Forever 21 flagship store had a board that displayed live video of the people looking at it from the street.
Later that night, a bunch of friends and I worked on the Advanced Logic Design problem set. It wasn’t that difficult, but it was time consuming. I am starting to hate drawing logic gates.
Caroline noticed something on Thursday. Silk sells “Plain”, “Original”, and “Unsweetened” soy milk. What is the difference”?
On Thursday, I went over to the offices of 10Gen to hang out for a while and see how working at a startup is. This is what the Flatiron District looks like. There are actually many startups that have offices in that area.
I had a blast at 10Gen. Kristinia Chodorow, one of the early employees of 10Gen gave me a copy of the first MongoDB book and even signed it!
Saturday was homecoming. Unfortunately I had a meeting in the morning. As a result, I came halfway through the game and missed all the free drinks and food. Even though Columbia lost to Dartmouth, the game was pretty entertaining.
After riding back to campus, Caroline went a little wild and made a fruit plate. ^^
We felt a little lazy and ordered Chinese takeout from Columbia Cottage.
Caroline got a really weird fortune. What could it mean?
